My artwork celebrates our opportunity to discover joy through vibrant color, hidden details, and imaginative storytelling. Inspired by childhood memories of my grandmother’s New Hampshire gardens, I create paintings that blend realistic elements of nature with unexpected details and hidden discoveries. Each painting is my invitation to slow down; to discover moments of joy, peace, and connection. I hope my work fills homes with happiness, inspires a sense of wonder, and offers a colorful escape into a world where nature and imagination bloom together.

About me
A life shaped by seasons, gardens, and connection.
Sue Elkus is a New Hampshire native whose work is inspired by the ever-changing beauty of the seasons and the joy found in nature's smallest details. Childhood summers spent on her grandparents' farm shaped her deep appreciation for the natural world. Growing up among a family whose roots span eight generations of farming in Ireland and New Hampshire, she learned to respect the land, the animals, and the rhythms of each season. Her grandmother's flower gardens became a lasting source of inspiration. Evening walks through the gardens were filled with lessons about identifying flowers, planting seeds, and nurturing blooms for the following year. Bright red (forever faithful) geraniums spilling over English ivy remain one of Sue's most cherished memories. After a forty-year career as a nurse, Sue brings the same careful observation, compassion, and attention to detail into her artwork. Caring for others taught her the value of human connection and the importance of finding joy in everyday moments. Today, Sue creates vibrant, nature-inspired paintings that blend realism with imagination. Rich color, whimsical collage elements, and hidden discoveries invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and experience a sense of wonder. Through her work, she hopes to remind others that joy can be found right here, right now.
